Asylum seekers are only eligible for work authorization once their case is won, or 6 months after applying to the US government with no decision. Without the ability to work, many survivors struggle with basic basic needs during the first year after resettling in California. PTV’s Client Emergency Fund is set up to cover the basic needs of survivors when emergencies arise. These funds can cover anything from emergency food, transportation to appointments, medicine, eye exams and glasses, dental care, mattresses and bedding, clothing, and calling cards to family members back home.
